How to build trust and trustworthiness

In this section, we introduce a catalogue of trust-related resources and describe a selection of resources relevant to each of the elements of trustworthy data stewardship.

It takes time to build trust and trustworthiness, and the appropriate method for doing so will differ between organisations depending on their context, use case, ecosystem, etc. It can be hard work and the process is likely to be iterative.

As a result, this section of the guidebook does not outline a series of discrete, linear activities. Instead, it provides a catalogue of trust-related resources to help organisations build trust and trustworthiness within each of the 10 elements of trustworthy data stewardship (which we covered in Activity 1).

We have focused on describing ODI tools because we are more familiar with them. In the future, we want to expand this section to include descriptions of useful non-ODI tools and resources as well.

The entire catalogue of trust-related resources is available in Airtable, and contains tools and resources from the ODI as well as from external organisations. Each listing includes a description of the asset and how it can be useful in assessing, building or demonstrating trust. The catalogue is a work in progress and represents a snapshot of the resources landscape as of March 2021 based on extensive desk research. We welcome feedback on how to make it better as well as suggestions for tools or services from other organisations that you believe we should include in this public resource.

For organisations who have worked through the activities in the ‘Assess' section, the links on this page can be used to jump directly to an element of trustworthy data stewardship where you would like to build trust or trustworthiness. It is also possible to browse them alphabetically if so desired.
