Build or improve technologies

Technology is the part of data infrastructure that people are often the most familiar with. We usually think of technology as either hardware, such as a computer, or software, like the programmes we use on our computers. A ‘data technology’ is best described as any tool – hardware or software – that enables us to collect, access, use or share data more easily and effectively.

Data access initiatives building technologies to improve access to data include:

  • Anti-Eviction Mapping Project – volunteers create digital maps, software, tools and more to empower people to fight against unfair or unlawful personal circumstances around housing and eviction

  • Open Climate Fix – a variety of stakeholders enable Open Climate Fix to use machine learning approaches to solve challenges that will have a large climate impact

  • London Datastore – stakeholders across London use this open data platform to find and share useful data about the city, in order to address organisational or city level challenges
